Later in the evening I attended a very beneficial TeachMeet, some particular highlights of this for me were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dawn\u2019s Games Based Learning with her primary school class, using DS\u2019s and Wii\u2019s to teach various curriculum subjects, more info can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/redbridgegamesnetwork.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/hallyd.edublogs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. Using games in such a positive way in the classroom is certainly of great interest to me and I can really see this as a way to inspire students.<\/li>\n<li>The SSAT Digital Leaders programme \u2013 students in school training and supporting staff.<\/li>\n<li>Heathfield Primary school\u2019s fantastic <a href=\"http:\/\/y62011.heathfieldcps.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Year 6 blog<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The main event took place on Tuesday and from what I hear there was\u00a0 a great selection of work shops (I didn\u2019t see any of them, though, as I was presenting at my own one!). The workshops running throughout the day were the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taking IT Global by Mandeep Atwal<\/li>\n<li>Outdoor Learning &amp; Technology by David Rogers<\/li>\n<li>From the Cloud to the Classroom by Guy Shearer<\/li>\n<li>Creative use of Technology in the Classroom by Dan Roberts<\/li>\n<li>Office 2010 in the Classroom by Stuart Ball<\/li>\n<li>Creating Games with Kodu by myself!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can read more about the workshops <a href=\"http:\/\/itndownloads.com\/itfreg\/workshops.htm\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>My Session \u2013 Creating Games with Kodu<\/h4>\n<p>My session began by looking at what Kodu is and who can use it. I gave a demonstration of how to make a very simple game (despite being simple I still managed to keep losing!). This was basically just a flat world with a tree, a castle and some apples to collect. I then demonstrated how to program a character to collect the apples to score points and finally added an enemy to shoot at the player!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.interactiveclassroom.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/IMAG0074.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"IMAG0074\" src=\"http:\/\/www.interactiveclassroom.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/IMAG0074_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMAG0074\" width=\"244\" height=\"184\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a> After this, my delegates sampled an example of a starter activity from my scheme of work which involves matching the correct Kodu instructions together to give various commands. I very much appreciated the positive feedback on <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/geekynicki\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Also on Tuesday we were lucky enough to have two fantastic keynote speakers to talk to us, Professor Sugata Mitra famous for his \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hole-in-the-wall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hole in the wall<\/a>\u2019 project and Michael Furdyk Co-founder of the young person\u2019s online community, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tigweb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Taking IT Global<\/a>. Both were excellent and very inspiring. I would certainly like to experiment with some of Sugata\u2019s work where children teach themselves, I strongly believe this will help them become more independent thinkers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.interactiveclassroom.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/IMAG0075.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"IMAG0075\" src=\"http:\/\/www.interactiveclassroom.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/IMAG0075_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMAG0075\" width=\"184\" height=\"244\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a> One of my highlights of the event was winning a Microsoft Innovative Teacher award, I didn\u2019t know I would be getting this so was very excited!
